About 24-Switchback Road

A winding mountain road built in 1936 on the old Guizhou–Yunnan highway, climbing about 250 m in 24 hairpin bends over four kilometres. It became a symbol of US support for China in the Second World War after American army engineers reworked it in 1943, is part of what is called the Stilwell Road, and is a national-level protected monument; English-language sources also call it the 24-zig or the 24-bend road. The scenic area around it also has a viewing platform and exhibition hall, built in 2016 and run separately from the road itself.
