About Niangzi Pass

A Ming-dynasty fortified pass on the Shanxi–Hebei border, known as the ninth pass of the Great Wall, where the railway and road cross the Taihang Mountains; the present walls date from 1542. Visitors climb the walled pass and its gate towers, and the scenic area also takes in sections of Great Wall, a waterfall and an old village in the valley. In legend the Tang princess Pingyang garrisoned the pass with a force of women, which gave it the name 'Ladies' Pass'.
