About Nanyue Martyrs' Shrine

A memorial shrine below Xianglu Peak on the lower slopes of Mount Heng, planned in 1938 and completed in 1943 by the Nationalist government for soldiers killed in the War of Resistance against Japan, and regarded as one of the earliest and largest such memorials in China. Laid out like the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing, a 240 m axis climbs from a memorial arch past a tower shaped as five artillery shells and a stele hall to the cross-shaped sacrificial hall. Collective cemeteries of several Nationalist divisions and the tombs of a dozen generals lie on the surrounding hills.

How to get to Nanyue Martyrs' Shrine
