About Nansha Tianhou Temple

Rebuilt in 1996 with funds from the Hong Kong businessman Henry Fok on the site of a Ming-dynasty shrine, this large temple to Mazu, the sea goddess Tianhou, climbs the south-east slope of Dajiao Hill above the Pearl River estuary. A granite statue of the goddess faces the sea from the front square, and Qing-style halls rise in tiers to the eight-storey Nanling Pagoda at the top.
