About Liuyang Confucius Temple
A palace-style Confucian temple modelled on the one at Qufu, moved to this site in 1818 and rebuilt in 1843, with its gates, bell and drum pavilions and Dacheng Hall complete. Tan Sitong and Tang Caichang started a mathematics society in its Kuiwen Pavilion in 1895, and from 1991 the temple housed the Liuyang Museum, which has since moved to a new building elsewhere in the city; its ceremonial music for Confucius has been a national intangible heritage item since 2014.
How to get to Liuyang Confucius Temple
On Guizhai Road in central Liuyang, inside the grounds of Liuyang No. 1 Middle School and a few minutes' walk from Tan Sitong's former residence; as it stands in a working school, ask locally whether visitors are let in.
