About Shuidonggou
One of the first Palaeolithic sites excavated in China: Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Émile Licent dug here in 1923, and later excavations recovered stone tools, hearths and ostrich-eggshell beads left by late Palaeolithic people. The scenic area links the excavation localities and a site museum (opened 2011) with a section of the Ming Great Wall, the walled Hongshanbao fort and the Cangbingdong tunnel fortifications.
