About Chaoyang North Tower
Chaoyang North Tower is a 42.6 m square brick pagoda with thirteen tiers of dense eaves, built up over several dynasties on the palace site of the Yan-state capital Longcheng, which is why it is nicknamed the 'Five Ages Pagoda'. Its walls carry relief carvings of seated Buddhas, bodhisattvas and flying apsaras, and the adjoining North Tower Museum displays finds from the pagoda's underground and upper chambers. Xinhua reported that in 2026 the tower was opened for climbing, with limited numbers, on some festival days.
