About Huacheng Temple
The oldest and leading temple of Mount Jiuhua, in the middle of Jiuhua Street: tradition dates it to 401, and the Silla monk Kim Gyo-gak lived here in the 8th century, after which it was dedicated to Ksitigarbha and called the head of all the mountain's temples. Rebuilt in 1391, 1435 and 1681, it climbs in steps along a north–south axis through the Lingguan, Heavenly Kings and main halls to a Ming-dynasty sutra library. It was declared a national key Buddhist temple in 1983.
