About Mount Cangyan

A wooded gorge in the Taihang foothills where the Fuqing Temple complex is built into the cliffs, with its Bridge-Tower Hall carried on a stone arch spanning a narrow cleft high above the valley floor. The temple is traditionally said to date from the Sui dynasty and to have been the retreat of Princess Nanyang, a daughter of Emperor Yang; the present buildings are Ming and Qing, and the temple is a national heritage unit. The setting was used in the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), and a stepped path climbs from the temple towards the summit.
