About Xiaotang Mountain Han Shrine

A small stone offering shrine from the early Eastern Han dynasty, standing on Xiaotang Mountain near the Yellow River. It is the only known shrine of its period still standing in its original form, a building about 4 m long whose black stone walls are carved in shallow relief with processions, hunting, entertainments and mythological scenes, plus visitors' inscriptions from the 2nd century and a Northern Qi eulogy on the outer wall. Tradition links it with the filial exemplar Guo Ju, and it is now sheltered by a protective hall within a walled precinct.
