A walled stone town founded in 1378 as a Ming military post and later a market town, with walls, gates, lanes and houses built of the local blue-grey stone that earned it the name 'stone city'. Its sights include temples, a Catholic church, memorial archways and the former residence of Zhao Yijiong, Guizhou's first civil-service top scholar, and part of its old streets is also a listed section of the Tea Horse Road.
