About Diaoyu Fortress
A Southern Song mountain fortress on Diaoyu Hill, a peninsula where the Jialing, Qu and Fu rivers meet east of Hechuan, which held out against Mongol armies for 36 years from 1243. The Mongol Great Khan Möngke died during his siege of it in 1259; its stone walls and gates, naval wharf and other remains form one of the best-preserved Song battlefield sites in China and a national archaeological park.
