About Guangrao Guandi Temple Main Hall
This Southern Song timber hall, first built in 1128 as the main hall of a Guan Yu temple, is described by the city culture bureau as the only surviving Song-period timber hall in Shandong; it now serves as the main hall of the Sun Wu Shrine. Its single-eaved gable-and-hip roof and bracket sets, repaired in the Ming and Qing, are a rare example of Song-period carpentry, and the surrounding shrine is a modern Song-style compound with exhibitions on Sun Wu, inscribed steles and a long porcelain-carved copy of The Art of War. It stands beside the Dongying History Museum in Guangrao town and has been a national protected monument since 1996.
