About Gongcheng Temples and Guild Halls

A group of Ming and Qing buildings in Gongcheng town. The Confucian Temple, founded in 1410 and rebuilt in 1842, climbs the hillside in terraces from its Lingxing gate and Pan pond to the double-eaved Dacheng Hall, and the Guandi (Wu) Temple of 1603, rebuilt in 1862, stands beside it with its own opera stage. Nearby are the Zhou Wei Shrine to a Song-dynasty official born in Gongcheng and the Qing-era Hunan Guild Hall, promoted together with the temples as the 'three temples and two guild halls'.
