About Xilimen Erxian Temple
A temple to the two Yue sisters in Xilimen village, built round two courtyards covering 2,748 square metres. It was founded in the Tang dynasty and heavily repaired in 1157 and 1162; the middle hall dates from 1157 under the Jin dynasty and has a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, while the gate, rear hall and side halls are Ming or Qing. Two carved panels on the stone terrace in front of the middle hall, one of a scarf dancer and one of actors in a stage scene, are counted among the earliest surviving pictures of Chinese drama.
