About Fengdu Ghost City
A hill of temples and shrines on Ming Mountain above the Yangtze at Fengdu, linked since the Song dynasty with the underworld court of Chinese folk religion and Taoism. Halls, bridges and gates named after the stages of the afterlife, such as Naihe Bridge, Ghost Gate Pass and the Tianzi Hall, the oldest building at about 300 years, are filled with statues of demons and judges, and some of the tests of the dead are re-enacted for visitors. It is a regular stop for Yangtze cruise ships.
