About Sanhe Ancient Town

A river town where the Fengle, Hangbu and Xiaonan rivers meet near Chao Lake, scene of the Taiping army's 1858 victory over the Xiang Army at the Battle of Sanhe. Its 4.7 km² scenic area mixes a few older buildings, such as the Liu Tongxing shop-residence and the house where the physicist Chen-Ning Yang's family took refuge in 1937, with much new construction in traditional style along waterways and wide streets. It is known for its rice wine and makes an easy day trip from Hefei.
