About Yao Guangxiao's Tomb Pagoda
The tomb pagoda of Yao Guangxiao (1335–1418), the Buddhist monk who advised the future Yongle Emperor during his seizure of the throne and later helped compile the Yongle Encyclopedia. Built between 1418 and 1426, it is an octagonal brick pagoda with nine tiers of dense eaves and an iron gourd finial, and in front of it a large stele under a pavilion carries an inscription composed by the Yongle Emperor.
