About Hualong Cave
A Palaeolithic cave site on the southern slope of Meiyuan Hill where excavations since 2006 have recovered human fossils about 300,000 years old, including the skull known as 'Dongzhi Man', together with stone tools and the bones of giant pandas, stegodons and other animals. The excavated cave is now protected under a 680 m² Chinese-style shelter, with sculptures of ancient animals and a bronze hunting scene on the lawns outside; a site museum 1.2 km away, built to look like a cave inside, explains the finds in four galleries.
