About Cizhong Catholic Church

A Catholic church in the village of Cizhong in southern Deqin County, rebuilt here by French missionaries of the Paris Foreign Missions Society in 1909–1911 after their earlier church, about 15 km to the south, was burnt in 1905. Its design mixes a Romanesque Revival plan with Tibetan, Han and Bai building traditions. Used as a primary school during the Cultural Revolution, it survived largely intact, and the church, side buildings, gate, cellar and vineyard are all preserved.

How to get to Cizhong Catholic Church
