About Guangyu Ancestral Hall
The ancestral hall of the Lu clan of Qiangang village was built in 1406 by descendants of Lu Xiufu, the last chancellor of the Southern Song, and its three halls combine northern and Lingnan building methods in a way unusual in the region. Dated records of each major repair since 1553 have made it a reference for Ming and Qing architecture, and its restoration received the top Award of Excellence in UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards in 2003. A long carved eave board found in 2000 shows a panorama of the Guangzhou waterfront in the Qing.
