About Chongqing Natural History Museum
Chongqing's natural history museum, open in its present building at the foot of Jinyun Mountain in Beibei since 2015, with a design based on the spreading roots of the huangge fig, the city tree. Its collection of more than 110,000 objects covers fossils, minerals, animals and plants, and the dinosaur galleries show Sichuan Basin skeletons such as Omeisaurus and Tuojiangosaurus. The museum grew out of the Western China Academy of Sciences, founded in 1930, and the wartime Western China Museum, and it still runs the academy's old campus in central Beibei as a second site.
