About New Fourth Army Jiangsu–Zhejiang Military Region Sites
In 1944–45 the Communist-led New Fourth Army made the hill villages around Huaikan, in north-western Changxing, the base of its Jiangsu–Zhejiang Military Region, which was formally set up at Wentang village in February 1945 with Su Yu as commander. Fifteen former command and support sites are protected as a group, and a memorial hall on the site of the First Column headquarters presents the history of the base.
