About Yan Garden, Changshu
A small classical garden in Changshu's old town, laid out in 1780 by Jiang Yuanshu, a former prefect of Taiwan. Its highlight is the Swallow Valley, a rockery of yellow Yushan stone with a gorge, caves and a bridge, built after 1829 by the rockery master Ge Yuliang; it is one of only two of his rockeries that survive largely intact, the other being at the Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty in Suzhou. Halls, a lotus pond and a second rockery of Lake Tai stone fill the rest of the compact site.
