About Beijing railway station

Opened in 1959 as one of the Ten Great Buildings marking the tenth anniversary of the People's Republic, Beijing railway station was then the largest station in the country. Designed under the architects Yang Tingbao and Chen Deng'ao, it pairs a broad central hall with two 34 m clock towers and glazed-tile Chinese-style roofs on a monumental, Soviet-influenced plan. It is still a working main-line station, the only one inside the old walled city.
