About Hanzhuang City Site

These are the rammed-earth walls of a town of the Eastern Han dynasty, linked to Yongchang commandery, which the Han set up in this area in AD 69. The rectangular enclosure measures about 370 by 315 m, with walls up to about 5 m high, and it is regarded as the best-preserved Han-era town site found in Yunnan. Once known as Zhugeying ('Zhuge's camp'), it lies beside Zhugeying village and is of most interest to those keen on early frontier history.
